Creating 3D Model by Importing

In the problems with "3D Import" model class 3D model is imported from the STEP format file (ISO 10303 - the Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data), created by the appropriate CAD program. QuickField 3D geometry import has some limitations. Imported geometry model should include only one body. If the STEP file describes several bodies, only the first one will be imported.

3D model processing starts from the QuickField problem creation with geometry class "3D Import". As usual, the problem setup requires choosing the geometry file name, in this case with the extension .m3d. Double click over the file name in the problem tree will open the model editor window in its 3D view. The button "Import STEP" in the 3D model editor toolbar should be clicked next. The STEP file (usually with the extension .step or .stp) should be selected and the button "Open" clicked then.

In case there are the geometric objects already presented in the QuickField model - they will be automatically deleted prior to importing a STEP file.

Normally STEP file includes the length units, and they will be taken into account during the geometry import. If there are no length units in the STEP file - current length units of QuickField model are to be used.
