Ground connector resistance

QuickField simulation example

This is an example of the ground connector simulation, performed with QuickField software.

Problem Type
Plane-parallel problem of DC conduction.

Geometry
Ground connector Determine the resistance of the ground connector 2 m 2 m 1 m Soil Metal rods

Given
Soil resistivity ρ = 10 Ohm·m
Overvoltage value U = 250 V.

Task
Determine the resistance of the ground connector.

Solution
The electrical conductivity is inversely proportional to the resistivity of the soil σ = 1/ρ = 0.1 S/m.
We assume that some distance away from the ground connector the electric potential drops to zero.

Result
Ground connector resistance is 250 / 23.94 = 10.4 Ohm per 1 meter of conductors length.
