Electrostatic simulation of 3 phase cable
QuickField simulation example
This example is prepared by Dariusz Czerwinski
Engineering question
How to find conductor arrangement effect in three-phase cables?
Engineering answer
Set up a plane-parallel QuickField Electrostatics problem for a three-phase cable arrangement and evaluate the conductor arrangement effect on electric field from computed field results.
Typical applications
three-phase underground cables, cable conductor arrangements, power cable insulation layouts
- Download simulation files (files may be viewed using any QuickField Edition).
Problem Type
Plane-parallel problem of electrostatics.
Geometry
The diameter of the cable with insulation is 20mm (for all cables).
The insulation thickness is 2 mm.
Given
Relative permittivity of individual insulation ε = 3.3;
Relative permittivity of common insulation ε = 3;
Voltage applied UA = 9.8 kV, UB = -4.9 kV, UC = -4.9 kV.
Task
Determine the field strength, potential in cable and in insulation.
