How to Try the Optimization Main Features?

1. Start LabelMover Optimization

There are two main ways to start LabelMover.

You can use Windows Start menu: Start>Programs>Tera Analysis>Tools>QuickField LabelMover>Parametric Analysis with LabelMover.

Or you can start LabelMover from QuickField, as an add-in. For it, choose Tools>Parametric Analysis with LabelMover in QuickField menu. You can also use toolbar button or Ctrl+Alt+M shortcut.

After LabelMover is started you should switch to Optimization analysis using button at the Start page.

2. Specify the Base Problem

Press Base Problem... button. In the file dialog, choose the base problem you would like to optimize.

3. Specifying Optimization Goal

Press the Add Values & Goal... button. Values & Goal definition dialog will appear.

• Specify a value to optimize.
• Choose a goal: Maximize, Minimize or Close to.
• If you choose the Close To goal, specify the target number. Optimizer will try to minimize the difference between the goal value and target number.
• Press Add.
• Typically you should just specify a goal value and then press Close. However, you can add more values and Do not use as a goal for them. These values will be displayed in result table, but will not be used for optimization.
• Press Close.

4. Specify Variations

Press the Add Variations... button. Variation definition dialog will appear.

• Specify possible variations of the model geometry or physical properties and press Add for each variation.
• Press Close.

5. Do Optimization

Now you can start the optimization process:

• You can specify the Max runs value. This value specifies the maximum number of problems to generate during the optimization process.

  Typically you can just set it to Unlim. It means that the process will run until the optimal variation is found.

• Press the Do Optimization button

• Wait while LabelMover generates a sequence of problems searching for optimal solution.

• The optimal solution value will be marked by color in the result table (red or blue color depending on the goal type).

Tip. Progress bar will appear, indicating how many problems are already generated and solved. If you decide that the best solution found so far is already satisfactory, you can press Cancel button and quit the optimization process at any time.

6. Viewing Results

Results for Optimization are very similar to the results of the Serial analysis. The optimal solution is highlighted with red color for maximum and blue color for minimum.
