Magnetic forces between two axially magnetized cylinders. Case 2: Cylinder axes are parallel - QuickField simulation example
Engineering question
How to find parallel magnetized cylinders force?
Engineering answer
Set up an axisymmetric QuickField DC Magnetics problem for parallel magnetized cylinders and evaluate force from computed field results.
Typical applications
axially magnetized cylinders, permanent magnet assemblies, magnetic positioning systems
Download
- Download simulation files (files may be viewed using any QuickField Edition).
Simulation problem
Problem TypeAxisymmetric problem of DC magnetics
Geometry
dx = 2 cm.
Given
Cylinder diameter D = 1 cm,
Cylinder height H = 4 cm,
Permanent magnet relative permeability μ = 1.05,
Permanent magnet coercive force Hc = 1 000 000 A/m.
Task
Calculate the magnetic force between cylinders.
Solution
The problem geometry is 3D and we cannot directly use QuickField. But the resulting field may be decomposed into the individual fields generated by each cylinder. The free tool Cylinder PM force 3D allows the magnetic force calculation using the automatic summation of several axisymmetrical DC magnetic fields, simulated by QuickField.
