Plunger type AC-Electromagnet

QuickField simulation example

Electromagnetic plunger works on AC current and consists of the electromagnet with a moveable plunger.

Problem Type
Plane-parallel problem of AC magnetics.

Geometry
Model thickness Lz = 32.4 mm
Plunger type AC-Electromagnet Electromagnetic plunger works on AC current and consists of the electromagnet with a moveable core. Core Plunger Plunger Spring 114.3 mm 22 mm 66.2 mm 12.3 78.6 mm 13.5

Given
Plunger and core are made of steel with relative permeability μ = 1000
Coil has 1250 turns and the wire diameter is 0.55 mm. Winding resistance Rb = 13.59 Ohm*.
AC voltage 230 V (r.m.s.), frequency 50 Hz.

Task
Determine static force characteristic.

Solution
The 2D geometry model does not include front and back parts of the coil. To take into account electrical resistance of these parts the resistors are added to the electric circuit, so that the total resistance matches Rb.
We should specify the magnitude of the voltage source in an electric circuit, that is 230 * √2.

Result
Magnetic flux distribution in the electromagnetic plunger.
