Importing Models from CAD Systems

Help contents

You can import 2D model geometry or its fragments from a DXF file produced by most CAD systems. To do so, click Import DXF in the File menu and select the required file. If needed, the model window is automatically zoomed after the import to fit the entire model.

QuickField imports lines, points, circles, circular arcs, 2D polylines, lightweight polylines, and geometry contained in inserted blocks. Other DXF entities are ignored.

If the drawing contains unsupported DXF entities, convert them in the CAD system to lines, circular arcs, circles, or 2D polylines before exporting to DXF.

QuickField assumes that the coordinate units used in the DXF file are the same as the length units selected for the QuickField model. If necessary, select the appropriate model length units before importing the DXF file.

When importing 2D geometry from CAD systems, small coordinate discrepancies may produce nodes that should coincide with other nodes or edges. QuickField uses the DXF import tolerance to merge such geometry. The dimensionless Settings / DXF import / Tolerance parameter defines the geometry tolerance as a fraction of the maximum model size.

We provide the special add-in to QuickField that allows you to import sketches from running SolidWorks® application to QuickField models. Choose Import from SolidWorks.. command from the Edit menu to invoke this add-in.

For more details refer to Importing SolidWorks® Sketches.
