Permanent magnet gear wheels

QuickField simulation example

Magnetic gearboxes are used as an alternative to mechanical gearboxes. The transmitting torque of the magnetic gear is limited by the maximum power of the magnets.

Problem Type
Plane-parallel problem of DC magnetics.

Geometry
Permanent magnet gear wheels Determine the static torque as a function of magnetic wheels position. Rotor Stator Outer wheel S N S N

Axial length Lz = 50 mm.

Given
Coercive force of permanent magnets Hc = 800 kA/m.
Relative magnetic permeability of steel μ = 1000.

Task
Determine the static torque as a function of magnetic wheels position.

Solution
A series of magnetostatic problems for different positions of outer wheel is calculated. Measurement step is 2 degrees. LabelMover tool is used to automate calculations.

Results
Dependence of the mechanical torque on the outer wheel position.
