James R. Claycomb

James R. Claycomb, professor of Physics in the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) at Houston Baptist University passed away on May 3, 2020

He received his B.S., M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Houston. He also served as adjunct Instructor of Physics at U of H and Kingwood College. His teaching interests included Theoretical Physics, Modern Physics, Astronomy, Biophysics and Computational Physics

Dr. Claycomb's research interests involved magnetic measurements using Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) magnetometers.

He has published several books, including:
Applied Electromagnetics using QuickField and MATLAB
Introductory Biophysics Perspectives on the Living State,
and over 40 journal articles on the application of SQUID's for Chemical, Biological and Medical Physics, Self Organized Criticality (SOC), Electromagnetic Modeling and other topics.

In honor of their colleague, the College of Science and Engineering HBU has registered a star, to be called The James Claycomb Star. The star residing at the astronomically verified position of RA 4.253 and Declination +15.32 is hereby named JAMES CLAYCOMB.
