Coupled resonant circuit
QuickField simulation example
Example courtesy of Milan Ćuković.
This is essentially an air core transformer. One coil is energized and the other coil is connected to the load. We are going to change the distance between coils and the AC voltage frequency. The task is to measure the transfer function.
Engineering question
How to find resonance of coupled air-core coils?
Engineering answer
Set up an axisymmetric QuickField AC Magnetics problem for coupled air-core coils and evaluate resonance characteristics from computed field results.
Typical applications
coupled air-core coils, resonant inductive coils, wireless power coils
- Download simulation files (files may be viewed using any QuickField Edition).
Problem Type
Axisymmetric problem of AC magnetics.
Geometry
Given
Copper electric conductivity 59.6 MS/m
Voltage source 5 V (r.m.s. value), frequency sweep f = 1.. 21 kHz
Task
Calculate the transfer function for different coil spacing ΔX and AC frequency f.
Solution
Voltage source is applied to the Coil #1. Coil #1 current and Coil #2 current magnitude and phase are measured.
